The Community Health Centre
The Tantramar Community Health Centre was officially opened on April 21, 1991, through the generous support of area residents as a project of the Sackville Memorial Hospital Foundation. The Foundation built the building in response to a physician shortage in the area which was due, in part, to inadequate accommodations for the doctors’ offices. The health centre was built hoping it would be a recruitment tool and it seems to have worked! The health centre is now filled to capacity and houses several physicians, an optometrist and one dentist. It also houses a pharmacy. The Tantramar Community Health Centre is one of the few that is not run by government.  The Centre is now managed by a professional building management firm, to ensure an attractive well maintained and convenient facility for today and the future. The switch to professional management has meant the volunteer Foundation Board can direct more of its energy toward philanthropic activities.
